I’m not sure what happened to the ‘sizzling’ September we were promised, it turned out to be more of a washout than August – very wet and windy indeed. But we’ve had some beautiful blue-sky days in-between.
All this weather didn’t stop the brilliant 110 triathletes from turning out and competing in our Traighathlon on Sunday 24th September. The event raised over £1500 to support the refurbishment of the leisure centre.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to you all and a huge thank you also to all the volunteers that ventured out to help, not forgetting all the spectators that braved the weather to give their support and encouragement to all the participants.
Pictures and results can all be found on the website: http://www.mallaigleisure.org.uk/the-traigh-triathlons/ If you enjoyed it or feel like giving one a go, why not sign up and get in training for our next one on Sunday 16th September 2018?
To help you get ready for this, we are looking to start up a local Tri Club. The club will be for all levels from beginner upwards and it is open to anyone who wants to train in any number of the disciplines. If you are interested please get in touch with Emily.
As it is the October Holidays from 9th – 23rd October, some of our activities will not be running as usual. These are; Rebecca’s music classes, Children’s Block swimming lessons, Life-Saving Club, Yoga and Deep-Water Aerobics. However, Catherine’s Monday morning classes will still be running.
CHILDRENS BLOCK SWIMMING LESSONS
We now have two new swimming teachers Jane and Michelle, they have taken numerous lessons from individual to group lessons and are not only finding them fun they are amazed at how the children are progressing.
The lessons have now finished for the October holidays and will commence again on the week beginning 30th October.
ADULT SWIMMING LESSONS
Starting from the week beginning 30th we are wanting to start weekly Adult Swimming lessons. These will include classes beginners and improvers.
If you are interested, please get in touch with Emily. Hopefully we can get enough interest to get these going!
The progress of the weekly members to the club is brilliant, and it is all going very well. If you want to join in the fun and learning how to save a life, come and join us on Thursdays at the pool.
Rookies will also start this term for primary school age children.
Rookies 3.30pm – 4.30pm (Under 12 years of age)
Save and Survive 4pm – 5pm (Over 12 and adults)
As you are probably aware, Paula is now on maternity leave and I (Christine) am holding the fort while she is away. Paula is a hard act to follow and it’s all a bit new to me so apologies if I’m not quite as fast and efficient just yet – I’m getting there! Speaking of Paula, I would like to congratulate her on behalf of everyone here at Mallaig Leisure on the birth of her beautiful daughter Petra Francesca – pop in and see us sometime soon Paula and Petra!
I would also like to welcome Emily Davis, our new Operations Manager. We look forward to her taking the helm and running the centre to best serve the local community, and help them get the most out of the facilities.
Two other new faces are Tina and Shenja, who are joining us as Leisure Attendants.
We still have openings for Leisure Attendants and Lifeguards. If you are looking for part-time work, then this is the perfect opportunity to join our team.
For the Lifeguarding position you must have your NPLQ.
Luckily, we are running an NPLQ course ourselves over two long weeks; 3rd ,4th ,5th & 10th ,11th ,12th November.
On Friday the 3 & 10 November the course will run from 1pm-6pm and on all the other days from 9am-6pm.
It would be great to hear from any locals that want to be involved. If you are interested, please get in touch with us.
The whole centre (Pool and Gym) will be closed on Friday 20th October. This is because HWE need to carry out essential maintenance on the boiler, and we will be having a full staff training day.
